Goals & Reflections: I’m Not Quite There, But I’m Not Where I Was!

Goals & Reflections: I’m Not Quite There, But I’m Not Where I Was!

December is a perfect time to reflect as we enter into the New Year. Whenever it comes to goals, most of us can say that we’re not quite there. While there are rare individuals that can boast that every area of their life is absolutely perfect, it’s not common.

Is There Room For Growth In Your Life?

If we’re completely honest with ourselves and open for personal improvement, we will admit that there is always room for growth. If you look back at your previous year, you might find a roller coaster of emotional moments, pitfalls, and peaks. But, life would be rather dull if everything stayed the same all of the time. While some of us grow from our mistakes, others might continue to repeat them until they learn a hard lesson. What I found in life, fighting personal change is a recipe for disaster.

I’ve also learned in looking back this year that stubbornness doesn’t prove right or wrong, nor does it solve anything.

Keeping Things Short & Sweet

I’m keeping my word count low this post, keeping things short and sweet. While yearly reflections are good, it’s better to learn and grow from our past. Good or bad, if we don’t show that we’re moving forward, we’re stuck. Growth requires taking action steps after identifying where we can change and improve.

My Top Ten Reflections For The Year

  1. Yes, some 2.5-year-olds do breastfeed until preschool.
  2. Your past will text you when it’s too late for them.
  3. Work smart by keeping track of your progress.
  4. Sometimes it takes a few attempts to get it right.
  5. Money saved means money not spent.
  6. I can only control me.
  7. Don’t bring your work home with you.
  8. Kid’s grow up too fast, enjoy them while they’re little.
  9. You’re not always acknowledged for what you do.
  10. Forget the haters & hang with the people that do accept & get you.

My favorite saying is paraphrased in the title, and it’s the most important thing to remind ourselves. While we may not be where we would like to be, we’re definitely not where we used to be.

Lovely post, Sonyo! I especially love the roller coaster relation.
Very inspiring and revealing (never knew some 2.5-year-olds still breastfeed until pre-school 😮😮)
And I agree. We may not be there yet but we are better than we were before.

Thank you Jainey, my daughter just loved to breastfeed. 🙂 I like to remind myself that I’m not where I was, which is still an improvement regardless if I’m not where I want to be yet.

“Forget the haters & hang with the people that do accept & get you, ” a true message.

I’ve learned that not everyone will “get” us and therefore will dislike and even hate us for no other reason. I used to stress about this and occasionally still do. At the same time, I’ve had to learn that rather than using all my energy on worrying and fretting about what I can’t control, I can decide who to hang with. If people don’t like me (for whatever silly reason) I can choose to surround myself with people that do dig me. ❤

I love how short and sweet your post is! And also the part where you mention life is a roller coaster, and to forget the haters and hang with the people who get you. I think they’re great. 😀

Life is often a roller coaster of emotions. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that the ups and downs in life are normal. Fighting it only causes more internal strife. 🙂

It certainly is! Nothing is constant, so we should learn to roll with it. 😀

We’re often hardest on ourselves and need to remind ourselves that we’re still a work in progress.

Sonyo, I enjoyed reading your post and thought your short-but-sweet post was just the right length. 😉

As for the things you pointed out, the one that speaks to me is, “I can only control me.” (Well, that and “don’t bring your work home with you,” which is very hard for me as I do work from home. But I will amend that to, “When you aren’t working, put it out of your mind and go do something fun instead. Don’t obsess.” How’s that?)
