Creamy Avocado Smoothie: Drink Your Vitamins

Posted on Updated on

photo 5I am sure you’ve got that killer homemade guacamole recipe that you love to dish out when friends are over or on special occasions. If you are an avocado fan you are probably used to adding it to your salad or sandwich as well. But, have you ever tried drinking it?

Recently, I felt a little daring and decided to drink my avocado and I was blown away by just how amazing and tasty it was. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been juicing with the Nutribullet pro. I am finding just how creative one can be, as there are so many wonderful Nutribullet recipes out there today. I really enjoy the Nutribullet pro because there is little to no clean up and no vital nutrients thrown away or wasted.

The one thing you need to know when juicing avocados is that it makes your shake incredibly thick and creamy, depending upon how much of it you use. You can use an entire avocado for one smoothy, but it might end up a little too thick.

Avocado is considered a high fat food, though research indicates that the nutrients in avocado help reduce inflammation. Also, the fatty acids help the body absorb fat-soluble nutrients and equally benefit your heart by lowering the chances of heart disease.

Veggies & Fruit

  • ½ of an avocado
  • 1½ cup of kale
  • 1½ cup of spinach
  • ½ cup of blueberries
  • ½ cup of strawberries
  • 1 whole banana

Liquid

The measurements are not totally exact and can be adjusted depending upon your preference. If you have the Nutribullet, you throw all this in and you want to add a liquid to the line marked “Max” on the Nutribullet. I like to add unsweetened almond milk to the line.

Protein

I use one scoop of pea protein because it is non-dairy and soy free.

Energy

Maca root powder because it is a nutrient dense super-food that helps balance hormones in your body while giving you a boost of energy, as it is rich in vitamin B.

L-Glutamine

L-Glutamine is an amino acid that helps with muscle recovery and can be taken before and or after work outs. It also helps improve protein metabolism and boost your immune system.
