Social Media Sites: The Good and the Unfriendly
If you’re not on social networking sites these days, you’re living in the 20th century or more or less. It might as well be the Stone Age if your profession relies on any form of content marketing. The sun is setting on the day of simply buying print newspapers ads or high-priced radio or television spots. Why pay tens if not pay hundreds of thousands of dollars when you can virally market yourself for next to nothing? It’s really a no-brainer. Save money or spend money. Spend money and get some views or virally market yourself and potentially get thousands upon thousands of eyeballs on your content. No one says, “I can’t wait to waste money on ineffective, expensive advertisement.” Read the rest of this entry »

Technology + Social Media + Internet = No Privacy?
In our modern technological age of social media and the Internet, information and content sharing can go viral with one click. It can be your bad hair picture or maybe a picture you didn’t want anyone to see and in the wrong hands of an ex scorned lover, suddenly your naughty picture has gone viral.
Perhaps your picture or text message was sent by your own hands. Maybe you made a rookie mistake, fumbling the direct message option on twitter and turning what was meant to be private into a public message. Just ask Anthony Weiner and how his “private” – or is it “privates?” – direct message got accidentally sent public via Twitter. It cost him his career and nearly cost him his marriage. But the former Congressman isn’t the only one that has been in the hot seat due to social media and or technology. Read the rest of this entry »

Yelping for Business
I am pretty blown away by just how many new businesses I have discovered and have not been referred to by friends. While some people choose to lean on the opinion of their closest buddies, I have started to trust in yelp reviews more and more.
This can be unfortunate for some businesses because anyone with too much time on their hands can jump online and write something nasty just for kicks. What I have found though is that a good portion of my friends rely heavily on customer reviews and their main research tool is yelp. I used to not be as in to yelp as I am now. Having moved back to Los Angeles from New York, the site has served to be a great guide in reacquainting me with the good and the bad that Los Angeles has to offer.

Social Media: Positive Reinforcement or Breeding Narcissism?

Social media has radically altered the way most of us communicate in the 21st century. The brief history of social media goes hand in hand with the start of the first major Internet service provider, CompuServe making its dial-up debut in 1969. As the Internet began to advance, the information age exploded. We can look up, research, dig, snoop, and pluck out anything we need because of the Internet.
